Grant County Fuel Assistance
Available from October 1st - May 15th!
WHEAP (Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program)
WHEAP provides home heating and/or electric assistance to eligible households.
Grant County Department of Social Services is still setting up appointments. Most applications will be conducted face to face or by phone. We will not be mailing out any paper applications other than the early short form applications that have already been mailed at the beginning of the season.
To be eligible for the program, a household’s gross (before any deductions) income for the prior three months must be less than the following:
# of persons in household:
1 - $7,168.25 2 - $9,374.00 3 - $11,579.50
4 - $13,785.25 5 - $15,991.00 6 - $18,196.50
7 - $18,610.00 8 - $19,023.75
The amount of heating and/or electric assistance benefit is determined based on the household’s size, income and heating costs. In most cases the heating and/or electric assistance benefit is issued directly to the household’s fuel/electric provider. Within the Wisconsin Home Energy Plus program, there is a crisis portion for heating related problems. To be eligible for crisis assistance, you must first have been determined eligible for a regular WHEAP benefit.
Outreach Locations are also still available in Platteville, Fennimore, and Boscobel. The dates and times of these locations will be available when you call for your appointment.
To schedule an appointment at an outreach site, you will also contact Grant County Department of Social Services at 608-723-2136, extension 1125.
